Greensboro’s dessert shops sit in two places: downtown, where Cheesecakes by Alex is on South Elm Street and Savor the Moment is on North Davie Street, and around UNCG, where Yum Yum is on Spring Garden Street and Insomnia Cookies is on Tate Street. How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records with a Greensboro address, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 11, 2026, and against the U.S. Census Bureau’s city limits. We added Savor the Moment from the Downtown Greensboro Inc. directory and kept it because its own site gives a Greensboro street address. Yum Yum has no website; we kept it because the Visit Greensboro listing confirms its address and phone. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Cheesecakes by Alex opened on South Elm Street in December 2002. It sells 22 flavors of cheesecake, two of them seasonal, in three sizes, kept in stock for walk-in customers or preordered for pickup, and ships cakes as well. Its site also lists pastries. It closes on Christmas Day, the day after and New Year’s Day.

Insomnia Cookies is the late-night cookie chain’s Greensboro store on Tate Street, near UNCG. It sells warm cookies, with delivery until 3 a.m. every day, according to its site.

Savor the Moment on North Davie Street calls itself a dessert bar and the home of the Crunch Cheesecake. Its site takes orders online and offers catering and gift cards.

Yum Yum Better Ice Cream on Spring Garden Street, near UNCG, sells ice cream and hot dogs. The Visit Greensboro listing says W. B. Aydelette Sr. started the business with a push cart in downtown Greensboro in 1906. It has no website, so call ahead for hours.

Not on the list yet. Friendly Center’s directory lists Ben & Jerry’s, Cold Stone Creamery, Dippin’ Dots, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and See’s Candies, and the downtown directory lists Cream, Sip and Scoop on East Market Street. We could not find a store page of their own with a Greensboro street address and hours, so they are not in the table yet.
