Guilford County Schools’ spring break is Monday, March 22, to Friday, March 26, 2027, on the district’s traditional academic calendar, and Easter Sunday follows on March 28. Early and middle college students have a different week: March 8-12, 2027. Year-round and other calendars have their own dates on the district’s calendars page.

The traditional calendar also lists the end of the third quarter on Friday, April 2, 2027, and a mandatory teacher workday on Monday, April 5, so students on that calendar are off that Monday too. The early and middle college dates come from the school board’s calendar update, which moved those schools to their host colleges’ common break. More on the district is on our schools guide.

Camps

  • Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum, 220 N. Church St.: the museum runs School’s Out Camps during Guilford County Schools breaks, teacher workdays and holidays, usually for ages 4 to 10, with cooking and outdoor sessions in its Edible Schoolyard. Some sessions sell out, so register when spring dates post.
  • Greensboro Parks and Recreation: camp and program registration runs through the city’s online registration system; see the register for programs page. Summer camp details are on our summer camps and pools guide.

Things to do over break

  • Greensboro Science Center, 4301 Lawndale Drive: open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. year-round, according to its hours page; some rides and the zipline keep their own seasonal hours. Phone: 336-288-3769.
  • Children’s Museum: open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday; Monday mornings are for members, according to the museum. Friday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. carry a reduced admission.
  • The city lakes: Lake Brandt, Lake Higgins and Lake Townsend offer boat ramps, boat and paddleboard rentals and trails, according to Greensboro City Lakes.
  • Greensboro Public Library: storytimes, crafts and family programs at its branches are on the library calendar.

What is open and closed

  • City offices and trash: in 2026 the city observed Good Friday and spring break on Friday, April 3: no trash collection that day, Thursday collection moved to Wednesday and Friday’s to Thursday, according to the city’s collection schedule. The library closed that Friday and Easter Sunday. The 2027 city calendar is not out yet; Good Friday 2027 falls on March 26, the last day of the GCS break.
