Memorial Day 2027 is Monday, May 31. It honors the men and women who died serving in the U.S. armed forces. In Greensboro the day is marked at the Guilford County Veterans’ Memorial in Country Park and at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, and the long weekend opens the city’s outdoor pool and sprayground season.

Where to pay respects
Guilford County Veterans’ Memorial, Country Park
The Guilford County Veterans’ Memorial sits on about an acre in Country Park, 3905 Nathanael Greene Drive. Dedicated Sept. 14, 2002, it holds more than 1,200 personalized paver bricks honoring members of every branch. It is free and open during park hours. The memorial’s board says construction has begun on an expansion with room for more bricks, new flagpoles, a bronze battle cross sculpture and a UH-1M “Huey” helicopter display. Veterans groups have held Memorial Day services here in past years, including a 2019 ceremony by the Steve Millikin Black Cap Veterans Group that WFMY News 2 listed; we add the 2027 ceremony when its organizers announce it.
Guilford Courthouse National Military Park
The National Park Service site at 2332 New Garden Road preserves the battlefield of March 15, 1781. The park is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and closes only on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day, so it is open on Memorial Day. Call 336-288-1776.

- City offices: closed on Memorial Day under the city’s holiday calendar (Monday, May 25, in 2026). Police, fire and 911 keep running.
- Greensboro Public Library: closed on Memorial Day (May 25 in 2026), according to its holiday schedule.
- Guilford County Schools: Monday, May 31, 2027, is a holiday on the 2026-27 calendar.
- Guilford Courthouse National Military Park: open, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Pools and spraygrounds open for the season
In 2026 the city opened its outdoor pools and spraygrounds on Saturday, May 23, Memorial Day weekend, according to Greensboro Parks and Recreation’s pools and spraygrounds page:
- Peeler Pool, 1300 Sykes Ave., and Warnersville Pool, 601 Doak St.: weekends from May 23, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., free admission, first come, first served.
- Barber Park and Keeley Park spraygrounds: daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., free for families.
