Rail crossings
The city’s rail project page now says Norfolk Southern has completed all rail work in Greensboro, so the rolling crossing closures from the rail replacement project have ended. The page gives no completion date. Phase 2, between Efland and Raleigh, is planned for 2027 and does not reach Greensboro.
City street work
The Greensboro Department of Transportation handles paving, signals, bike lanes and closure permits on city streets. Its annual paving projects page has the current paving list and an interactive map of planned transportation projects with each project’s status. Before repaving a street, the department checks whether to redesign the lane markings for safety or for people on bikes and on foot.
To get city road closure notices by email, sign up for the Road Closings/Traffic Alerts list on the Department of Transportation page. Contractors and event organizers who need to close a city street apply for a road closure permit through the same department.

- Lane shift means the lanes move but stay open; expect a lower speed limit.

- Future roadwork is scheduled but not started.
