Why it matters to Greensboro

  • History: the event began in 1938 and is one of the longest-running stops on the PGA Tour. Sam Snead won the first one and won in Greensboro a record eight times, including his last Tour win in 1965. Nineteen World Golf Hall of Famers have won here.
  • The course: the tournament moved back to Sedgefield Country Club, a Donald Ross design, in 2008 after a 31-year absence, and has now been played there more than 40 times.
  • Charity: the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation runs the event. Its backpack programs have provided more than 1 million meals to Piedmont Triad families, and it also supports First Tee Triad and Western North Carolina hurricane relief, the tournament said.
  • What’s next: Raymond James signed a multi-year deal, and the event moves into the PGA Tour Championship Series in 2028. The full 2028 schedule has not been announced.

All of the above is from the tournament’s August 2026 announcement.
