What it is
The festival books more than 60 acts across genres, plus folklife demonstrations, crafts, storytelling and food. Past performers include The Roots, Mavis Staples, George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, Rhiannon Giddens, Steep Canyon Rangers and Molly Tuttle, according to the festival’s past lineups. There is a Family Stage and a Family Area for children.
The Greensboro Cultural Center stays open as the festival’s FolkLife area, with dance workshops in the Van Dyke Performance Space and the galleries open.
Cost and tickets
Admission is free. Food, drinks, crafts and merchandise are for sale. Optional VIP tickets add snacks, drinks and shade. The festival says it raises more than $1.5 million a year to stay free: about 60% from sponsors, 20% from drink and merchandise sales and 20% from donations. Its volunteers in blue shirts collect donations in blue buckets, or you can text NCMUSIC to 50155.
If you are 21 or older and want to buy a drink, get your ID checked and a wristband at a Guest Services tent first.
