New Year’s Eve is Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, and New Year’s Day falls on a Friday. That moves two days of trash collection in New Year’s week, and Christmas week has its own changes. Few New Year’s Eve events are announced this early; this page lists what venues have published and fills in as more arrive.

New Year’s Eve plans announced so far
- O.Henry Hotel and Proximity Hotel. The two hotels sell New Year’s packages, according to O.Henry Hotel’s holiday page. O.Henry’s “Cheers to 2027” package includes priority dinner reservations, a dining credit and sparkling wine in the room, and a two-night New Year’s package is also offered; both are available Dec. 30 to Jan. 2, 2027. Last year O.Henry also held two free jazz sets in its Social Lobby on New Year’s Eve, as Visit Greensboro reported; 2026 plans are not posted yet.
- Lucky 32 Southern Kitchen. Last year the restaurant served its regular dinner menu on New Year’s Day plus traditional Southern “good luck” food for dine-in or takeout, according to Proximity Hotel’s New Year’s page.
- Downtown rooftops, comedy and concerts. Visit Greensboro’s 2025 roundup listed a rooftop countdown at One Thirteen Brewhouse, New Year’s Eve comedy at The Idiot Box and The Comedy Zone, and a late show at Ziggy’s. Families: the Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum, 220 N. Church St., holds a yearly “Noon Year’s Eve” countdown for children. In 2024 it ran from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 31, with crafts, a balloon drop and an apple juice toast, and needed a ticket, according to Visit Greensboro’s listing. What is open and closed
- City of Greensboro offices: closed Thursday, Dec. 24, Friday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Dec. 28, for Christmas and winter break, and Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, for New Year’s Day, under the 2026 holiday calendar. Public safety staff may observe different dates; police, fire and 911 keep running.
- Greensboro Public Library: all locations closed Dec. 24, 25 and 28, and from 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, through Friday, Jan. 1, according to the library’s holiday schedule.
- GTA buses: check holiday service on the routes page before you travel. Regular service runs 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. weekdays and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.
